Today, the students visited the Jacksonville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau where Executive Director, Brittany Henry, spoke to them about what the CVB does. She explained how Jacksonville is rich in history, education, the arts, and healthcare and how that brings tourists to town. The CVB helps these tourists find somewhere to stay and to eat. Brittany also explained the difference between business travel that brings people to the area such as the pipeline, work done by the Army Corps of Engineers and the colleges, and recreational events such as the raceway, historical sites, and baseball tournaments. She also discussed the effects that COVID has had on the tourism industry and how they are rebounding.

Our area has so much to offer and tourism has helped support the creation of over 300 local jobs and generate over $1 million in tax revenue on the local level.

Thank you, Brittany, for the information. We appreciate your time and hospitality!
